Transcription: Reggie Workman’s solo on ‘Conception’

Check out the legendary Reggie Workman’s solo from the George Shearing classic ‘Conception’ from the 1967 Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers Album, Ugetsu. Notable features include his powerful sound in the lower register, use of open strings, and effective motives to navigate this notoriously tricky song!

Transcription: Roy Hargrove’s solo from September in the Rain

The first jazz CD I ever bought was Roy Hargrove’s, Habana. Ever since I have been in love with his stylistic playing and supreme musicality. He is missed dearly in the world of music. Here is my transcription of his solo on ‘September in the Rain’ from his 1990 album, Public Eye. Notable features include his swinging lyricism and great double time bebop language. A beautifully crafted solo!
